There are several power characters, however there are of course two mains that play the big roles. I have a weakness for complicated plots so hang with me on this one.

Setting: College, possibly high school if you want to go that way. I am an older person, so high school isn't in my reach to write anymore. I know people say that if you have lived through it then you can write about it. Well that isn't always true, because sometimes you just don't want to relive that shit. ANYWAYS, my point is they are in a structured learning institution of some sort where there are likely to for cliques. Those fun little group of persons who interact with each other more regularly and intensely than others in the same setting. 

Players: One male and one female to start it off. they are out cast and really just hang with each other. They have one other friend, although it's one of those friends where they are popular and you wouldn't dare speak to them in front of anyone because you know her reputation would force them to be openly mean and caustic. However in privet they are the nicest people ever. 

So the male MC (Main Character) and popular girl start up a relationship, but of course it has to be in secret. Some vindictive no body (or if you want to go complicated like I do, you can put the girl MC with this task) tells the whole of all those that matter about this relationship. Instead of it ruining the popular girl and the nerdy male MC, it skyrockets his popularity and her social standings hit top, leaving the girl MC alone. 

Meat of it all:
Okay that's the ground work. From there you can go many ways. there can be dramatic attempts in trying to dethrone these two. Option two would be you can restart this story several years later, when the MC girl has learned to be independent and hardened to pretty much everyone, she runs back into male MC and they duke it out then.
